Here are some illustrated maps that I have done for Discover Britain Magazine. I really enjoy illustrating maps - you get to do lots of fun spot illustrations and also hand draw some type. What could be better?
The area around the River Camel (alas, not a river filled with camels) in Cornwall is so peaceful and beautiful. It was great to help bring it to life slightly for this map.
I was lucky enough to spend some time in the Cairngorms recently with some friends. The mountain scenery is stunning so I was thrilled when I was asked to illustrate this map for Discover Britain Magazine.
I have fond memories of visiting Wales as a student and although I never made it to this area, I really enjoyed illustrating it. Doing the research is kind of like a mini holiday - a good excuse to spend lots of time snooping around on Google Street View. Is that sad? Who knows!
Despite living in Cornwall for over ten years, I've *whisper* never been to the Isles of Scilly. I know, right! And it's somewhere where I've wanted to go since I was ten and watched a programme about diving there. It's only about 40 miles from where I live so I have no excuse really but there you go. It's on the (long) list.
I love exploring the Cotswolds so this map was a lot of fun to do. There are so many cute towns and old houses which were great to draw - all those timber frames! Beautiful.
